OUR STORY & MISSION

We exist to develop a life in Christ.

For over 50 years, Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge has helped men and women in West Michigan break free from addiction and find the hope, freedom, and transformation found in Jesus Christ.

MISSION & VALUES

Hope and freedom, found in Him.

We believe in the redemptive power of Jesus Christ, and our highest aim is to help individuals find hope, freedom, and transformation in Him. We believe that anyone who belongs to Christ becomes a new person, leaving the old life behind and stepping into a new one. Six fundamental values drive everything we do.

Discipleship

A LIFE SURRENDERED TO CHRIST

Discipleship is more than learning; it's living. We lay down our own ways to follow Jesus in obedience, humility, and love; a lifelong journey of being shaped into His image.

Matthew 28:19-20

Worship

A LIFE THAT GLORIFIES GOD

Worship is not just a song we sing, but the life we live. A daily posture of honoring God with our words, our actions, and our faith, grounded in His unchanging character.

Romans 12:1

Prayer

A LIFELINE TO THE FATHER

Prayer is the language of faith, where heaven meets earth. It's our first response, not a last resort; the place we find strength, direction, and intimacy with God.

Philippians 4:6

God's Word

THE ANCHOR OF TRUTH

God's Word is alive, powerful, and unshakable. It doesn't just inform us; it transforms us. It is a constant light for our path in a world of shifting opinions.

Hebrews 4:12

Unity

THE STRENGTH OF THE BODY

We were never meant to walk alone. The body of Christ is strongest when we bear one another's burdens and press forward together with a common purpose.

Ephesians 4:2-6

Gratitude

A HEART POSTURED IN THANKSGIVING

Gratitude shifts our focus from what is missing to what has been given. In every high and low, it realigns our hearts to the goodness and faithfulness of God.

Philippians 4:6-7

"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

HOW IT BEGAN

A ministry born out of prayer

1958

Teen Challenge began in New York City; a direct result of David Wilkerson's obedience to God in prayer.

1969

That same burden took root in Rev. Phil McClain's heart. He began a Teen Challenge street ministry and coffee house in West Michigan.

Growth

The need for a live-in program became clear, and the ministry grew to two centers: one for men and one for women.

2023

After 54 years of ministry, Rev. Phil McClain retired. Pastor Ron McClain now leads the ministry forward with the same passion for the lost and broken.
